Costco Wild Alaskan Salmon

Brand Comparison
by Vaughn Aubuchon

The following page compares the two types of canned wild Alaskan salmon from Costco.

Which one of the two undyed products below looks like salmon to you?
To me, the product on the left looks more like tuna.

UPDATE: Kirkland Signature Canned Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is no longer available in California.

Costco now sells "Silver Lining" Wild Smoked Sockeye Salmon in a can. The only review at Costco says that it is far too salty.

   Costco Canned Wild
   Alaskan Salmon - Comments

Although B. & W. specs are marginally better on some line items,
the nutrition, appearance, and taste are superior in the Kirkland product.

The healthiest wild salmon have a deep orange color, caused by natural food sources.
The color of farmed salmon is a sickly grey color, and is ALWAYS dyed with artificial color.

It is the color of the two salmon products above which makes up my mind. Why is the Bear and Wolf product not orange? You tell me. I will go with Kirkland, especially since the Omega-3 level is 26% higher. There is also a decisive difference in taste. To me, the Kirkland product tastes more like salmon is supposed to taste.
