4. Continually advancing technology should result in DROPPING PRICES. Yet we are seeing the exact opposite - gouging by the cable companies. This industry just SCREAMS for regulation.

Comcast Monopoly Tactics

#

Issues

1

Comcast "rolls out" their price increases at different times in different areas, so that outrage is limited. It would be FAR MORE DIFFICULT to get away with their price gouging, if they rolled it out everywhere at once. So they sneak them in, area by area, over time. This spreads out and dilutes the outrage.

In Central California, my (primary) rate increases occur in August. For some, it is January. For some others, it is June.

2

Comcast is terrible at "channel maintenance", and doesn't give a darn about your service. They save money by not addressing service problems, such as -

PICTURE PROBLEMS
1. Channels missing in action,

("should be available shortly")
2. Frequent frame (channel) freezes,
3. Dismal TCM picture quality
4. Huge channel switching delay -
what used to take 2 seconds, two years ago, now takes 10 seconds!

SOUND PROBLEMS
5. Channels with NO sound
(2, 66),
6. Channels with TOO LOUD sound,
7. Channels with TOO QUIET sound
(27)
8. Channels with LOSS of sound SYNC

ADMINISTRATION PROBLEMS
9. Incorrect program guide,

10.
Comcast puts a "billing date" on their bill, but you DON'T GET TO SEE IT until 2 weeks later, because they mail it Pony Express (cheap postage).

11. Previously, Comcast sold me my modem, so there were no monthly fees. They somehow "forgot" about this, and now charge me for monthly modem rental. Apparently, you can no longer "own" a modem - it just isn't profitable enough for Comcast. "Make them pay for the modem, and then gouge them continuously forever.

3

Cable subscribers are in dire need of a powerful "Cable Subscriber Lobbyist", to combat the cable company lobbyists, who are responsible for subscribers getting gouged and trampled upon, by monopolistic cable operators, for which there are no viable alternative choices.

Cable operators should be forced to compete against each other, for the benefit of the customers. NONE should be allowed to be an independent, sealed-off monopoly in ANY area, where they can gouge customers to the bone, and do.

Cable TV should be a UTILITY, not a marauding bunch of thieves. It should be treated just like water, electricity and trash pick-up, and should be regulated as such.

DISCLAIMER -
I created this summary because of the confusing Comcast bill.
1. Comcast hides the increases by using a complicated bill format.
2. Most people won't take the time - so I have done it for them.
Any reported errors will be corrected.
