Comcast
Missing DTA Channels

After Spring 2013
"Digital Upgrade"
Santa Cruz Area

Everything on my end was PERFECT, on my DTA (Digital Transport Adapter). But my "digital upgrade" would not happen until AFTER I called the service number 1-877-634-4434. Only then would it work (in seconds). I believe that the software installation WILL NOT WORK using the supplied instructions. You MUST call the number to get it to work.

IN ADDITION, many channels are now missing, including my favorites 66, and 501.
--- MOST PREVIOUS CHANNELS ARE MISSING
--- NO ON-SCREEN CHANNEL GUIDE
--- NO ON-DEMAND PROGRAMMING
--- NO HD CHANNELS
--- NO TV GUIDE CHANNEL
--- NO CLOCK - NO TIME OF DAY

Comcast calls this an "upgrade", yet they remove FAR MORE channels than they add. What kind of upgrade is that? If you want to watch the missing channels, you have one option - PAY $8 to $10 a month for another set-top box, for EACH TV. Clever marketing trick, right? I don't think so. It is simply the gouging strategy of an unfettered monopoly.

Author's Advice - Skip the DTA, which offers hundreds fewer channels. Shell out the extra $8 or so per month for another Set-top Box, and enjoy full service from Comcast.

In addition, the DTA device is initially free. But in other parts of the country, a few months after the installation, they charge a $1.99 per month rental fee. Another enhancement from Comcast: more money, less service.

Bear in mind that there are AT LEAST 15 different
Comcast DTA boxes, with different manufacturers, part numbers and appearances. They all function differently, as well. Expect issues with this mish-mash of devices. Mine is a DCI105COM1. Only Comcast knows which devices are assigned in each area.

Here is a list of the missing channels, in the Santa Cruz, CA area. I suspect that other areas are similar.

This page was created on April 28, 1913. Full digital implementation was scheduled for April 30, 1913, but this has been pushed forward to May 7, 1913. Implementation finally occurred on July 9, 2013.

After activation: No channels have returned.
