California Website Design - Web Page Creation
Smiley Face

Do you need to create a web site?
California Web Page Design - Highest Quality - Reasonable Pricing

My #1 priority - Nothing else matters if you can't be found.
My specialty : SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine
Friendliness :

You must produce content that the search engines like.

1.

All the "gee-whiz" razzle-dazzle in the world is useless, if you do not appear
highly in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). If your targeted search
terms don't get you on page 1 or 2, very few surfers will ever see your page.
Clicks on results #1 - #4 are equal to ALL the clicks on Results #5 - #1000.

2.

Google now supplies 70% of all search results - 50% directly and 20%
through its affiliates. Study Google - do whatever Google says.

3.

No frames.*see below (Frames STILL cause big problems with search engines).
I realize that the temptation is great ... but not as great as the downside.

4.

No Java.*see below (Java is NOT consistent across platforms/ browsers).
Many users have turned Java off recently due to MS Windows viruses.

5.

Relevance rules - theme, keywords, title, body text, meta tags, alt image text.

6.

Carefully craft meta tags, optimize keyword placement and density in body text.

7.

Avoid anything that might be perceived as spamming -
no doorway pages, no cloaking, no redirects, no link farms,
no hidden links, no hidden text, no auto submissions,
no rank reporting bots (WPG).
Provide straight, original, accurate information with no attempted deception.

User Friendliness :

Don't send your visitors away.

1.

The index page must be small (minimal graphics), in order to load quickly.
Web surfers want instant gratification, and don't want to wait.
Many website designers include huge graphics files on the index page,
because they think that it "looks cool". Designers need to "lose the ego",
and design in the best interests of the customer. Put your giant graphics
files somewhere else, so that the visitor is not FORCED to wait for them.

2.

No banners or popup ads - PERIOD. People are sick of them.

3.

No animations, no flashing, no beeping or hokey music - annoying as can be.

4.

No "go get something else" requirements (Flash, Media Player, Shockwave, etc.).

Site Navigation :

Make it easy - very important. Be consistent.

1.

Underline all links, nothing else underlined.

2.

Provide easy return to the Menu from every page.

3.

Provide easy return to the top-of-page.

4.

Provide up-to-date site map, especially if the site is large.

5.

Provide complete and accessible contact information.

Quality Image :

Provide Value - Offer lots of free appropriate information.

1.

Provide frequent updates

2.

Ensure perfect spelling

3.

Style consistency and accuracy, Fix any errors you find as soon as possible

4.

Use friendly text, limit slang and infantile expressions, no wild claims,
No bragging (we are #1, the best, most famous, etc.).

5.

Optimize all graphics for type and small size,

Diligence :

Strong Work Ethic

1.

Get your site indexed as soon as possible in all the major search engines.

2.

Analyze your major competition - take appropriate action.

3.

Continually seek incoming links (backlinks) - link popularity is VERY
important in competitive areas, especially with Google.

4.

Check all outbound links frequently - bad links penalize your ranking.

5.

Seek out and react to any criticism.

Web Site Design - Issues to Address

Domain Name :

Thought of a name?  www.whatever.com ?
Domain name registration is typically $6 - $20 per year.
Which Domain Name registrar should you use?
The name must be available - it should be short and descriptive.
Individual words should be separated by hyphens, but only 2 or 3..

Web Host :

Who to select to host your website - typically $6 - $25 per month.
Typical $20 setup fee.

Lead Time :

Many people are unaware of the delay from "finished" to "available".
After web site design, one must become indexed in the search engines.
Then there is the delay before the spiders visit, weeks to months.
Then there is the delay from the time the spider visits your site,
to the time that your info is actually placed on the web, typically weeks.
This can be expedited by linking to the page from an existing page.
