AARP Offers - Mailed Ads
American Association of Retired Persons
A For-Profit Marketing Company
by Vaughn Aubuchon

Here is my summary of the AARP. I'm wondering why I joined. What did I get for my $16 signup fee? Tons of insurance ads, that's what. Somehow, in the back of my mind, I thought I would receive some benefits. The AARP is a for-profit marketing organization, whose PRIMARY PURPOSE is to sell me stuff, in spite of their statements to the contrary.

Below is a photo of all the mail they have sent me.
Below that is a chart listing all the offers.
Thank G-D they don't have my email address.
From my perspective, the only thing the AARP does, is SPAM ME WITH MAIL OFFERS.

The $16 fee you send them pays the postage for all the offers they are going to mail to you during the year. YOU pay the postage.
.

From the AARP - "We are a nonprofit organization."
From
Wikipedia - "According to AARP's 2008 Consolidated financials, it was paid $652,000,000 in royalties from insurance companies that sold products referred by the AARP. The AARP also received an additional $120,000,000 for the ads placed in its publications."
$ 772 Million. Not bad, for a nonprofit, eh?
You realize that non-profit executives can have multi-million dollar salaries, right?

MY THOUGHTS

I am not enthralled with my AARP "benefits".
I am just a marketing pigeon, spammed with many offers.
There is NO REASON to send them any more money for "membership".
This pigeon is taking flight.

There may very well be a nonprofit division.
But all of the offers listed above are from AARP Services, a division which made 3/4 of a Billion dollars in 2008. All through hammering old folks with sales pitches.

What a concept! Get old folks to PAY you, for burying them in sales ad mailings. Apparently, they want us all to pay for their postage costs. Neat trick, wouldn't you say? Count me out.
