HERE is a brief summary of the minimum hardware and minimum software required for recent Macintosh Personal Computers.

I know, I know. You love your old PowerPC. Me too. But it is time to upgrade to an Intel core, or be limited by what you can do in the future. Here's why.

*My Tiger/ Time Machine FIASCO -
BEWARE of the APPLE TIME CAPSULE

If you are running Tiger (10.4.x), DON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR THE APPLE TIME CAPSULE. I set it up from a Snow Leopard laptop. The first thing I noticed was missing files. Then, the full catastrophe - "Kernal Panics" and freezes on every boot. Kernal Panics and freezes on DiskWarrior.

Dreaded Kernal Panic Caused by Time Capsule
"Kernal Panic"

If you still want to use Tiger and OS 9, nothing is fixable, until you -
1. Unplug the Time Capsule
2. Get it out of your house as soon as possible (and kick it in the nards)
3. Remove your Airport card, and NEVER plug it in again (vulnerable to neighbor)
4. Reload the Tiger OS 10.4 software (you will still get panics)
5. Install all the updates (you will still get multiple panics)
6. Re-run DiskWarrior (eventually, the panics will stop)
7. Re-run the Apple Disk Utility (eventually, the panics will stop)

Now, you are ready to begin -
Endlessly alternate between your various backups, DiskWarrior, and Apple Disk Utility.
Evaluate all backup files and folders for size and content.
Pick all the most recent files and folders as they were BEFORE Time Capsule exposure (pre-obliteration).

DO NOT use the fix permissions features of DiskWarrior or Disk Utility.
Instead fix all permissions using the "Get Info" command.

The process is similar to pounding gold into gold leaf - you MUST pound, and pound, and pound.

Apple Time Capsule Requirements for Mac
The above chart implies operation with 10.4.11. DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT!
The Time Capsule blows 10.4 to smithereens. Even your neighbors'.

Some have speculated that Apple was going to fix the Time Capsule software.
Dream on. Apple isn't going to fix ANYTHING in Tiger.

BUT THEY SHOULD STRONGLY WARN YOU BEFOREHAND - THEY DON'T.
People waste many hours on this, because Apple wants to be coy and cute. Screw Apple.
Another 28 days gone from my life, because Apple is not forthcoming.

Time Capsule Causes Kernal Panic

Kernal Panic When Running Tiger

Since Jan. 2, 2012 my primary computer has infinite kernel panic fever.
All email. Gone.
All bookmarks. Gone.

Critical applications - don't work.
Apple Computer blew up all 3 drives on my computer, because of Time Capsule.
The Apple Time Capsule is DESIGNED to blow up any computer running Tiger (10.4.11).
Hundreds of permissions are changed to garbage.
This is NOT stated or even implied in the Time Capsule specs.
Apple has been aware of this problem FOR YEARS (read the forums).
There is no fix.
It took me over 200 hours to recover. And, there are STILL glitches and permissions issues. - January 30, 2012.

If you haven't paid Apple huge bucks in the last 2 years, you are rewarded by Apple blowing your computer to smithereens.
If you are a legacy system user such as myself, consider yourself a piece of cr@p. That is exactly how Apple feels about you.

YOU MUST ALWAYS research ANYTHING you plan to do with Apple stuff, or suffer the consequences. I had NO IDEA that Apple was such a low-class outfit. AS A MINIMUM, Apple needs to fess up. After 2 years, they have not. THEY IGNORE THE ISSUE. Their solution? PAY UP! ... UPGRADE! APPLE AREROGANCE SUCKS.

After trusting Apple since 1985, they have lost me. I wonder how many thousands of others have received the same treatment, the same deception. If you blindly trust Apple, you may burn in He||, even before you die.

If you are still running Tiger, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you be anywhere near an Apple Time Capsule. It is GUARANTEED to blow your computer up. "Start again from scratch, you stupid, long-time, trusting user."

.
Why You Must Upgrade to an Intel-powered Macintosh in 2011 -

1. Support for OS9 ceases with Leopard - OS10.5.
2. Support for the PowerPC ceases with Leopard - OS 10.5.
3. Support for the Google Chrome browser begins with Leopard - OS 10.5.
4. Support for PowerPC applications ceases with Leopard - OS 10.5.

It is now time to upgrade your hardware - buy a new Intel-powered Macintosh, or be left behind. Sure, you can dribble along for awhile, but almost all new software for the Mac will be "Intel-only".

Since I STILL use some excellent OS9 software, I will be networking my new Intel machine with my my old PPC G4. There is some software for OS9 that has yet to be equaled by anything newer, IMHO. This has forced me to go "dual-system" for the foreseeable future, until I wean myself from my old applications.
